Luther South: Education for the mind and spirit. College Preparatory High School and Junior High School
Rules & Regulations

Most students are very serious about their school experiences and want to get the most from them. They have a good attitude toward school and generally have little difficulty in following school rules. A few students, unfortunately, do not share these principles and attitudes. Their behavior can create problems for everyone involved- students, teachers, administrators, and parents.

It should be noted that all disciplinary guidelines are in effect throughout the school day, at any school-sponsored event, or on a school bus going to or from school on a school sponsored event. Students are responsible for their own behavior and must accept the consequences thereof.

Dress Code

Luther South wishes to develop within its students a feeling for proper grooming and dress. Students may express personal tastes in dress and grooming as long as these are consistent with Christian standards and are appropriate for an educational setting. In this respect, moderation should be exercised in hair styles, makeup and clothing. Excessive vanity, calling undue attention to the wearer, is not part of the Christian life style. The individual as well as the clothing should be neat and clean.

The dress code at Luther South, while not highly restrictive, is intended to ensure that students are neat, clean, and modest in their appearance. While the great majority of students come to school each day dressed appropriately and according to the printed guidelines, we would like to remind both parents and students to take the following into consideration during the upcoming school year.

Before and After School

Students are allowed in the school building at 7:30 a.m. Students are to be out of the building and off school property by 3:15 p.m. unless they are involved in a supervised school activity. PARENTS NEED TO MAKE TRANSPORTATION ARRANGEMENTS FOR STUDENTS THAT WILL ALLOW THEM TO BE OFF SCHOOL PROPERTY BY 3:15 p.m.

Medicine

Any student on medication should bring the medicine to the office with a note from a parent requesting the school to keep the medicine available for the student's use. The students should then come to the office each time a dose is necessary

Work Permit

The student's emphasis during high school days should be on education. Working hours should not interfere with academic education. Students, 14 years of age and not yet 16, who wish to work after school or during vacations are required to have a work permit.

Closed Campus Policy

For the safety and well-being of the community of Luther High School South the campus is closed. A student is not permitted to leave campus for lunch or at any other time during the course of the school day without permission from the administration. A student who leaves during the school day without permission is considered to be truant with all consequences enforced.

Language

Proper school language is the only appropriate form of verbal communication. Vulgar words or profanity will not be accepted during/after the school day or at school sponsored activities.

Portable Communication Devices

Electronic pagers, beepers, or cellular telecommunication equipment or other such devices are not permitted during school hours. Those seen or heard on a student's person during the school day will be confiscated. Parents will be required to come in to school and pick up the device. Students may use the devices after school.

We are proud of the general tone of good discipline that exists in our school. This comes about through a cooperative effort of school personnel, parents, and students working hard to maintain this pride and in providing an atmosphere where an orderly educational process can take place.

The purpose of discipline guidelines is to assist students and parents to know the areas of school discipline and the range of disciplinary actions associated with them.

These guidelines make no attempt to list all possible areas or to mention every possible disciplinary action. They are attempts to address the majority of circumstances that might occur. All ultimate decisions of discipline will be decided at the discretion of the Principal.
