Parents : Homework Tips

HOMEWORK IS IMPORTANT! All parents should expect students to be studying and completing homework at home. The student may also use study hall time to complete homework. The homework must also be handed in to the designated teacher to receive credit. Homework NOT handed in could result in a grade being reduced or possible failure in a course. Parents will be informed if a student is not handing in assignments.

Parents should know from their student what homework the student has been assigned, including nightly and long term projects and assignments. All students will receive a copy of every classroom teacher’s homework policy. Parents may also request a duplicate copy if they are unable to attend parent night. It is recommended that parents help the student plan a time for homework. There should be a regular time and regular place for homework in an environment that lends itself to quiet study. Parents should be try to be available to help the students with homework as needed. If parents have questions concerning length or amount of assignments, they should contact the individual teacher. The average amount of homework time will differ with each student. A reasonable minimum expectation for a typical College Preparatory program is 30 minutes per class per night. Due to the nature of Advanced Placement (AP) courses and the fact that they are taught at the college level, students enrolled in these courses will have a heavier homework load than those students enrolled in traditional classes.

Students should record their homework due dates, tests dates, and project due dates in the assignment notebook provided. It is the student's responsibility to write down assignments and to make sure they understand all aspects of the assignments. It is recommended that parents check the assignment notebook daily. When a teacher allows class time to start on homework, the student must use this time to start on homework! Each evening before leaving school, students should make sure they have all books and materials needed for a given night's work. The assignment notebook should be used to make a study plan for the study time available according to the student's personal, family and church schedule.

Include homework help areas if possible. (this would be other website areas where a students can get help on homework such as:

If you know anymore sites that would be good, we could add them.

Be sure to check the homework and course plans web area so you are aware of the expectations of each of the teachers in the classrooms.
