Course Description for Driver Education
The classroom phase of driver's training will be offered to all eligible students at Luther South. Simualtion and Range will be offered off campus. Your classroom instructor will give you more information about off campus coursework. See

General Goal
Driver Education helps build responsible citizens besides improving the quality of drivers on the road which helps conserve human life.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, you should be able to:

Define traffic regulations, laws, and their requirements, and recognize the various situations or conditions under which they apply.

Develop the judgmental and decisional processes of driving to determine an appropriate plan of action, including strategies and tactics required to carry out the plan.

Describe general performance capabilities of motor vehicles as well as physical and natural factors that effect vehicle control systems.

Describe and design the legal and moral responsibilities of persons involved in or driving into a traffic accident situation, the nature and operation of the Safety Responsibility Law, the Financial Responsibility Law, and adequate insurance coverage.

Demonstrate a knowledge of the concepts and laws which enable students to make wise decisions in regard to the use of alcoholic beverages or other drugs any time they will be using the highway transportation system as a driver, passenger, or pedestrian.

Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the operations, skills, and special laws pertaining to motorcycle usage and the relation of motorcycles to the highway transportation system.

Demonstrate the ability to read a highway map and describe basic car care.

Demonstrate skill and competency in performing the basic routine maneuvers of operation of a motor vehicle under actual driving conditions.
Specific Course Activities
Students will:

Participate in classroom instruction at Luther South by Read the Rules of the Road, textbook, Driver's Guide, and handouts as assigned.

Participate in class discussions/debates.

Participate in simular and range lessons off campus. This will be arranged with your classroom instructor.
Cooperative Driver Testing Program
Students who successfully complete an accredited driver education course of classroom and behind-the-wheel programs may not be required to take a duplicate road test at the time they apply for their driver license. Only students who have completed the course with a grade of A or B will be eligible.
Behind-the-Wheel Phase
To pass the behind-the-wheel phase, you must complete all simulator and driving lessons. You must also demonstrate adequate driving skills. This evaluation will be made by the Driver Education Instructors.
